Carr Mill Dam

Overview

Randomly, you have to find this dam by going through the car park of the Toby Carvery located on the water's edge. You can park in the car park (which is pay and display) or travel further down the road and park for free on the road, spaces permitting.

Heading along the road, you come upon a small building and just to the right of that (it is signposted) is a pathway through a little woodland. Because of the setup, you're not totally sure if you are going the right way when you embark down the road but rest assured you are!

The woodland trail splits, with the left path taking you around the reservoir and along the dam in an anti-clockwise direction, and the right keeping you in the woodland. If you take the latter and go through a tunnel, turning left, you can do a lovely loop taking in tall trees and rolling fields, but do plan your route before setting off!

If you stick to the reservoir trail, the entire walk is about 40 minutes but there are plenty of trails and pathways which take you away from this circular adventure and keep you exploring for a little while longer. From the car park, the leftmost side of the resevoir is close to a main road, so if your dogs aren't great at sticking to the woodland path (and go off exploring where they shouldn't) then we'd suggest keeping them on a lead for this section.

Bins are few and far between but there is the occasional one. Expect to be holding on to any bags for a while though.

In wetter weather, this does turn into a mud pathway so sensible footwear is advised.
